Freeze hits Foxtail palm

Question
Hello,  We live in Houston and we had some very unusual snow and freezing weather yesterday.  The temp dropped down to 25 over night.  The freeze lasted for about 24 hours.  I have four very beautiful foxtail palms that I planted about 1.5 years ago.  They are about 10 ft tall each.  I did not get a chance to cover them from the snow and ice.  Today, I noticed all the fronds are brown, even the center one that was growing out the middle.  Do you know if these palms are savable and if so what do I need to do?  Thank you for your help..

Dillin

Answer
Hi Dillin, Time will tell, when a Palm is subjected to cold stress (as in this case..), it takes weeks sometimes months for the verdict, often they will shed the damaged fronds and send out new healthy ones, other times the crown will turn mushy and this is the end of the line for them. All you can do at this point is take a wait and see approach and just keep them properly irrigated. Nick
