adonidia palm

Question
adonidia palm
adonidia palm
Nick. I have an adonidia palm tree that for the most part is doing really well. It is indoor, in 20" self hydrating planter. It is constantly sending up new shoots but recently I have noticed 1 trunk starting to turn yellow at the base as well as one of the older fronds .  I was thinking that it may be in need of transplanting but I cannot find a planter bigger than the one I have. I was wondering if this type of plant could be split as there is more than one trunk..3 in total? If so I could then purchase another planter the same size as the one I have and give a little more space. If not could you suggest any on-line places to purchase bigger planters. I live in Canada and am not sure if this plant would survive the winter here or I would just plant it in my yard. Thanks for any help

Answer
It definitely needs to be in a larger container, and if you can't find one locally, you will need to attempt to separate the root system and pot them up separately; this will buy you some time, but eventually, you will face them same situation even with single units. Online is going to be prohibitively expensive, but they are there if you want to spend upwards of $100.00 to get one! They root system has 3 separate plants that need to be carefully separated and then planted, but expect them to go through transplant shock, it can't be avoided in a situation such as this. They may or may not make it through the process, and this is something you have to make a decision on, for to do nothing is not an option, and the palm is letting you know that with its yellowing. Soak the roots real well before proceeding (if you decide to try...), this will alleviate the shock somewhat. Outside planting is also not an option, it is far to cold up there.
