Question
Can I plant a coconut palm and bougainvillea together?  I have a coconut palm growing (about 6 months old) and want to plant the bougainvillea around the base.  will the coconut palm take over and kill the bougainvillea?

Hi Melissa, in my humble, but experienced opinion...no; The Coconut Palm will shade the Boug and hinder its coloring capability, the roots will definitely compete and both plantings will suffer. The rule of thumb is nothing should be planted at the foot of any palm. Nick
