Houston Queen Palm Freeze Damage

Question
I have three 30 foot queen palms behind my pool that are around 8 years old. They have been very healthy in the past but look terrible after our freezes this winter. Are they likely to survive?

Answer
Steve, the tale of the tape won't be apparent for about a month or so, the nights need to sustain over 50 degrees for plant life in general to revitalize, and this includes Palms showing new, emerging growth; once you notice a new spear being generated out of the heart of the crown, then you can rest assured that it will be fine. Queens are one of the more resilent of our palms, so if the upper most fronds are still green, then the chances are good it will survive. A close up image would be nice, but from 30 feet up that would probably be a long shot. Nick
