Robellini Palm Tree

Question
Nick:
My Robellini Palm went through a hard freeze this year and we pruned it back a couple of weeks ago.  So far the palm appears to be dead as we have not seen any new growth.  How can we tell if the palm is dead and is there anything we can do to save it? Any help on this would be great.

Answer
Hi Kelly, if it is indeed dead, it will literally decline to the point of rotting, the top will pull out and be mushy and the trunk will become rubbery; if this isn't occurring, then it still may be allright, just taking awhile to show new growth. Spray the crown with a Copper Fungicide (to deter the onset of a fungal problem..) and repeat in a week, and then be patient. Nick
