Coconut Palm Help!?!?

Question
I recently (about 8 mos ago) transplanted a coconut palm from my neighbor's
yard and initially the tree appeared to be doing fine... For a while though now
the palm seems to be stagnant, and not growing new fronds. whats really
weird is a new shoot came up from the middle and has not turned into a new
frond. just a shoot... and it's stayed that way for months. the tree doesn't
appear dead, although it's not looking that great. please help... i'd really love
to save this tree. thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Jason, Coconuts are hot weather lovers and after the cold winter we had, its going to be awhile before you see it kick back in; as long as it appears healthy, don't be concerned. Keep it properly irrigated (once a week) and as soon as the night temperatures start remaining in the high 60's, that spear will unfurl and it will be off to the races (albeit they are slow growers...). Wait until this happens before you give it a dose of Palm fertilizer. Nick
