roundup and trees

Question
I have some two year old trees in the pasture.  The grass comes up to them.  I want to spray with Roundup; Will this kill the trees?

Rroundup.com says it won't and my gardner says it will.

Please settle this question,.

Answer
Roundup will kill any green tissue it is sprayed on. So if the trees have leaves then Yes Roundup will kill them if the spray gets on the leaves. IF the trees are hardwoods and right now they have not started to bud out (form new leaves) then Roundup could be sprayed over the these trees. BUT if the grass is not green then there would be no point. IF your are careful and there is NO wind you can spray around the trees BUT be real careful. I would suggest checking with a Local Farm type Agency (Extension Service) and ask them to recommend a herbicide that will kill grass only and not hurt the trees. These do exist.
