frostbitten trees and shrubs

Question
We had a late frost here in Upstate South Carolina and many of my trees and shrubs had their new leaves killed.  Even my holly bushes have black leaves.  Will they get new leaves and what can I do to help them?

Answer
Hardwood trees and shrubs have the capability of re sprouting new leaves after an early frost kills back the new leaves. There is not anything that can be done to aid this except to water if it goes more than a week without rain. If you want someone to come check to see if the trees are ok I would suggest you call the local office of the S.C. Forestry Commission and ask one of their Foresters to come out and look. This is a free service. You should be able to find their phone number in the local phone book.
