allergy itching from hairs of sac worms

Question
i felt something crawing on my neck i slaped and rubbed it down for the last 13 hrs. ive been itching what can i do

Answer
The hairs on these caterpillars have a chemical on them that causes the itch. The hair will stick into the skin and come off. I would try apply a piece of adhesive tape and try to lift the hairs that may be their off. Apply ice packs to reduce the stinging sensation, and follow with a paste of baking soda and water.

Household analgesics, such as aspirin, appear to be ineffective for reducing pain and headache. However, oral administration of antihistamines may help relieve itching and burning. Topical corticosteriods may reduce the intensity of inflammatory reaction. Desoximetasone gel applied twice daily to affected areas may also help. Prompt referral to and treatment by a physician should be made when severe reactions are evident. IF you go to the doctor tell them this is a reaction to a hairy caterpillar.
