Catawaba Worms

Question
I LIVE IN SALEM, I KNOW THERE ARE TREES AND WORMS IN THE OPELIKA,
AREA, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN A WORM OR ANY SIGN OF THE CATAWABA FEEDING. MY QUESTION IS WHERE CAN I GET SOME LIVE WORMS TO PU5T ON MY TREES AND MABEY GET A START

Answer
I would check with local bait shops and see if they have any or can tell you where they get their supply contact hem and see about getting live catalpa caterpillars, commonly called catalpa worms or "catawba" worms.  OR if you know of trees with the caterpillars on them ask the owner if you can harvest some. Then transplant the caterpillars to your tree and let them feed. The caterpillars will pupate and turn into moths and lay eggs on your tree and then you can start your own population. Do not harvest all the caterpillars each year so you can maintain the population. Here is more information on these caterpillars.
