Golden Chain Tree - worms

Question

Golden Chain Tree -wor
I've had my golden chain tree for 3 yrs now and this year I noticed that chunks of the branches were dying. When I looked closer at it I saw that they have these brownish yellow worms about an inch long all over the dead/dying leaves.
None of the other trees around have these worms and I know that Golden Chain trees are very sensitive to toxins so you have to be careful what you spray around them. what would be safe to kill these worms? Pic is blurry, but best I could take :(

Answer
These are caterpillars and can be controlled with liquid Sevin --an insecticide that will not harm the foliage of the tree. This is a contact insecticide and the caterpillars should be killed within a day of spraying. Check with your local garden type store for this product. There is a a product called Bt that is used on caterpillars when they are first hatching out but the ones in the picture seem to be fully grown so the Bt will not work well on them.
