ROSE LEAF BURN

Question
HI, I LIVE IN THE HIGH DESERT ABOVE LOS ANGELES AND HAVE GROWN ROSES FOR 30 YEARS; HOWEVER THIS IS A NEW ONE FOR ME.  I HAVE A CLIMBING ROSE WITH NORTH EXPOSURE, PARTIAL MORNING SUN WHICH IS GROWING VERY WELL, BUT I AM GETTING SOME LEAVES THAT ARE DRIED OUT AT THE TIP.  THE COLOR IS BROWN TO MAROON AND THEY CRUMBLE AT THE TOUCH.  I DON'T SEE ANY OBVIOUS PESTS AND MY ROSES ARE OK.  THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP.

Answer
As you know leaves can re-act to chemicals (fertilizers) root problems and diseases. If all your roses have burnt petals, then it may be a frost nipped them just before they opened and this has damaged the bud eyes. That could account for the unusual colour and the dying. Can you remember if there was a cold snap just before the rose leafed out? Many of the roses in my garden has smaller, discolored leaves because we got a late cold north wind. If that is what happened, then the new healthy leaves will come out in a couple of weeks as roses can put out three sets of new leaves without effecting the vigour of the rose plant.
