Winter Perennials

Question
I bought a few perinnals on sale at the end of year. Can I keep them in my cave for the winter and plant them out in the spring? How do I care for them thru winter?
I was afraid they'd freeze out and not come back next year. Mums, grass, flowering cabbage. I live in eastern pan handle of West Virginia. Thanks Lisa Kenney

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Thanx for your question.  Plant your perennials immediately and mulch them very well with pine needles, leaves, cypress bark, etc. about 4-6 inches thick.    Flowering cabbage is not a perennial.  It is biennial and will go to seed next year if it survives the winter.  I hope this helps.
Tom
