mini roses

Question
A local store is offering mini roses and I would like to plant them.  I live in the Northeast (NY) and wondered if it's possible to plant them now and have the survive the winter?  Or wait until spring?  Thank you!

Answer
I'm afraid that mini roses will not survive in a cold winter. Most minis are grown for the house or on a balcony. Planting them in the ground will no doubt freeze them. Howvever, if you buy them from a garden center and they were bred for the outdoors, then mounding them up with soil will probably protect them from the winter cold but you are still taking big  chance with them.
