Care of Roses

Question
I have several kinds of Roses, climbers and scrubs, and
Florabundi. My question is I live in zone 5, I think, and I wanted to know since its getting to be Fall, how much water should I give them in between rain periods? Also, when do I start getting them ready for Winter, mulching, and so forth?

Answer
Rain doesn't always sink down deep so until there are frosts, I would make sure your roses got lots of water until the frosts started. Yu always let the rose start to go dormant before you do anything because if you start to make them cosy for the winter, then they could be activated into growth as the covering would be like a greenhouse. Wait until they have dropped their leaves, which means they have drawn the sap down to the roots that was in  the canes, and wait until the cold has made the ground hard, then prepare them for winter. Once the sap has gone to the roots and the canes have hardened off, there is no chance of them dying over the winter.
