Planting in January

Question
I want to replace some perennials that died, and I'd like to know if its still possible to plant flowers (such as Pansies) in January?  Ususally they're palnted during the fall.

Although I live in Maryland, it has been unseasonably warm this month.

Answer
Hi Renee,
Thanx for your question.  I have leftover pansies from the fall and I'm in the KC area which is relatively the same climate as the Washington, D.C. metro area.  If you want to try pansies, I think they'll be okay but won't be great until you have steady spring temperatures.  I have small blooms on my pansies now because we have been very unseasonably warm.  I hope this helps.
Tom
