I have a large number of lilies, which my friends love and want. Instead of digging up the bulbs, can I give my friends Lilly seeds to start their own Lilly beds? And if so what is the procedure to start lilies from seed?

Hi Jan,
Thanx for your question.  Lily seeds vary in their requirements for germination.  Many require cold periods to break dormancy.  Some will start underground the first year and then germinate above ground the second year.  Here is an excellent reference from the North American Lily Society I think you will find helpful.
