 should you cut back day lillies and grasses before winter in zone 5?

Answer
Daylillies will die back on their own-just rake them clean along with your leaves in the fall.

Grasses-especially tall ones can be left standing in zone 5 but cut to about 12" very early spring.  I have had people cut them back in the fall also.
