-----Question-----
I planted tulip bulbs into a window planter box and was told to put another bulb in with the tulips, so I bought Callas Lilly. The tulips are sprouting fine but the Callas Lilly (which were already in bloom) have turned yellow and died back. It has only been a month. When i transplanted the Lilly , I put bulb food in the soil when i transplanted and they get watered regularly.

Hi Celeste,

Is your window box indoors or outdoors? If outdoors, where are you located?

Were the tulips put in the windowbox at the same time as the Callas?

How many total bulbs are in the windowbox and how larger is the windowbox?

Regards,
Will Creed

Hi Will,
The window box is outdoors. I live in Fla, and they are hanging under a window that gets afternoon sun.  I planted the tulips and the lillies at the same time.  My box is about 3' wide by 12" deep by 8" across. I planted the Callas on the ends of the box so at least if the tulips never made it (which I planted in the middle) there would be something in the box that was in bloom. I don't know how many bulbs are for the Callas because I bought them from Lowe's already in bloom. As for the tulips, I have 11 sprouts in one box and 7 in another. I never thought that the tulips would ever sprout. They are from last year and I have a black thumb. I have never planted bulbs and this is my first attempt. The sprouts are doing great, but, the Callas are dying.

Thanks for your help,
Celeste

Answer
Hi Celeste,

I am sorry, but I am reluctant to provide an answer to your question as my expertise is limited to indoor houseplants where the environment is controlled. I am simply not familiar enough with your local climate to be able to advise you properly.

I suggest that you check with a gardening expert who is familiar with your area.

Regards,
Will Creed
