moon flower

Question
I have one moon flower plant and want to know how to divide the plant.

Answer
Hi Marge,
Thanx for your question.  When you say moon flower, are you talking about datura?  The flowers are large white trumpets that bloom at night or on cloudy days?  They have a very long taproot.  They are easy to start from seeds.  They also tend to have hundreds of babies around them every year.  I've never tried to divide the plant because it has never been necessary between the seedlings (volunteers) and starting them myself from seed.  They grow like tomatoes only the germination is about 2-3 weeks.  They are fast growers.  I would suggest transplanting babies or starting seeds.  The seeds will be found in a prickly ball.  Some refer to this plant also as thornapple because of the thorny seed ball.  I hope this helps.
Tom

Remember, all parts of the datura (moon flower) are very poisonous.
