Problem

Question
Hi, I have a plant which we call a "money tree" it is now a large plant about 12 years old and is situated in my house.
Recently I have noticed a hard white speckle on the leaves of some of the plant. Do you know what this maybe and if necessary how I can cure it? Many thanks for your help in anticipation. Regards Paul

Answer
Sounds like scale insects.  See if you can scrap a couple of them off with your fingernail.  They do not move even though there are very alive.  They will be oval or round shaped and closely appressed to the leaf and branch surface.  They need to be controlled. I would treat the plant with Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide.  This product is mixed with water and poured on the soil around the base of the plant.  It is taken up systemically and will kill the bugs within a week or so.  It also provides protection from reinfestation for up to a year.  This should fix the problem.  Good Luck.
