hydraneas

Question
this year is the first year for trying hydrangeas.  Upon receiving them, one was white and the other pink.  It is now the 3rd week of June and all of a sudden the white is turning green and the pink is in the beginning stages of going green.  When does one apply the acid or alkaline for changing the colors?  Also, should I leave on the blooms until they fizzle out or just how long will they stay?

Answer
Hi Karen,
Thanx for your question.  Hydrangea blooms turn green with age, especially in the South.  Fertilize in May and July in the South and July in the North.  You can deadhead your blooms to keep your plants tidy looking or you can use the dried heads in flower arrangements.

Here's a link to a great Hydrangea site that I think you will find helpful.
