indoor plant roots

Question
I don't know much about plants, so I can't give you all the specifics you are looking for. But basically, I have an average green leaf house plant and the root cut itself off from the rest of the plant. So the plant doesn't have any connection to the root that is in the soil. What should I do? Do I stick part of the plant in water to have it regrow roots or do I just bury part of the plant in the soil and hope it will regrow roots there?

Answer
Hi Sara,

For most houseplants, you can take the broken-off stem and root it in plain water. Change the water weekly to keep it fresh. When the stem cutting has roots that are at least an inch long, then you can move it into a small pot filled with potting soil.

If you can e-mail a photo of your plant to me at the address below, then I can identify your plant for you and tell you how best to take care of it.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
