ponytail plant roots

Question
I just purchased a 12 inch ponytail plant from walmart but I question their planting methods.  The plant's roots are visible at the surface and the plant feels loose in the soil.  Should I repot the plant and cover the roots more?

Answer
Hi Amy,

Without seeing a photo of the plant, I cannot say for sure. However, I would judge that the exposure of roots on the surface is not a problem. The looseness in the pot is probably due to improper watering.

I suggest that you leave your ponytail in its presumably small and shallow pot. Give it lots of light and water it thoroughly only when the soil feels dry about half way down into the pot.

If you can email a photo to my address below, that will help me provide a more definitive answer.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
