frostbite

Question
Yes now I have two deasrt roases and they got frostbit at the ends and
the roots are above the surface are they soppost to be ??

Answer
Hi Nikki,

Desert Roses (Adenium obesum) are usually grown with the upper portion of their roots above the soil line. These exposed roots develop an outer layer of bark to protect them. If that is the way yours came, then it is fine. If a lot of soil got dumped out and exposing lower roots, that is not okay.

Frost is not good. Desert Rose is a tropical plant and needs warm temps year round. Cold will damage leaves first because they are the most exposed. If the cold exposure was relatively brief, then the roots, which are insulated by the soil, may not be damaged and the plant will survive. Any leaf or stem issue that has discolored should be trimmed off. If the bulbous lower stem gets soft and mushy, you will probably lose the plant.
