Identification and Information of House Plant

Question
I have had the plant for approx. 23 years.  I don't know how old it was when it was given to me, but it was like a small tree even then.  It looks very much like a picture I saw of Dracaena Hookeriana, except mine is 9-10 feet tall.  It is in a 12" pot.  This past weekend it bloomed!  Never did that before.  What is it?...and why did it bloom after so many years?  The blooms are white spikey balls with a very strong scent that permeates the entire house.  Also, how should I care for it in the future?  To date I have only watered it about once a week or every two weeks and fed it regular house plant fertilizer once a month.

Answer
Nancy,

If it looks like a Dracaena Hookeriana it problably is that or a Dracaena Marginata.  Both look similar and both can be that large when they are that old. It bloomed because it is finallly reaching maturity. You should treat it the same as you always have, it sounds like you have been quite successful with it. Congratulations.
