Question
this plant I was given has middle to large waxy feeling dark green leaves.  On some of the larger leaves, about in the middle of the top is a growth that looks like jagged flaps sticking up.  The flowers are on spindels, in a spray with a yellow to red color.  What is it? How do I care for it properly? This plant stands up erect rather then drooping or hanging over the sides.

It sounds like your plant may be a Kalanchoe blossfeldiana.
