Castanospermum australe (sold as an aussie bean ball tree)

Question
Hello, I bought a Castanospermum australe about a month ago
and keep it indoors. It's about two foot tall and in a pot
just under a food high. I water it once a week (and give it
a good soaking), and it's near a window where it gets a bit
of light for most of the day (but not particularly strong
light). It came with some fertiliser and I added some of it
the first time I watered it. Over the last week its leaves
have been turning yellow, and I'm not sure whether I should
try something different in terms of watering or try and move
it to a spot where it gets more light? (or both!). Any
suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
Catherine

Answer
Hi Catherine,

Your plant definitely needs more light. It struggles indoors unless it is right in front of a sunny window with direct sunlight for most of the day. Fertilizer and water will not make up for lack of sunlight.

In reduced light, plants do not use as much water so you may be overwatering, as well. Allow the top inch of soil to dry before adding any water.
