climbing the walls

Question
I have a plant that vines(name of plant unknown...not an ivy...almost heart shaped leaves) and is climbing the wall.  Is there any danger in damaging the wall?

Answer
Hi Anne,

You haven't provided much specific information here, but I will make an educated guess that your plant is a Pothos and its adventitious roots along the stems have attached themselves to your inside wall.

If this is the case, then the answer is yes, those roots will damage the wall surface, marring the paint or wallpaper underneath. So unless you don't care about the wall surface covering, it is best not to let your plant grow up along the wall. The plant will not cause structural damage, however.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
