climbing perennials

Question
I bought a new house a year ago and pulled down all the ivy growing on the back wall.  I'm sorry I did that because now I have this very ugly wall and would like to grow something back on it.

How do I grow something actually on the wall?  I'd like something that also grows flowers.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Thanx for your question.  You didn't say what part of the country you are in so it's hard to say but there are some things you can try like morning glories.  There are many hybrid morning glories that are beautiful and do a nice job of covering the walls.  You may have to help them with some chicken wire or some netting so they have something to hold onto as they are not able to stick themselves to walls like ivy.  What kind of wall is it?  There are some vining hydrangea, Carolina jasmine, purple hyacinth bean, scarlet runner bean, mina lobata (Spanish Flag or Exotic Love), asarina, cathedral bells, canary climber and black-eyed Susan vines.  These are all flowering vines.  Depending upon how cold you get some may be perennial in your area.  I hope this helps.
Tom
