Bugs in the pot

Question
I have these small bugs (about a half an inch) that look like small centipedes or millipedes in the pot of my Massangeana Cane.  Are they hurting my plant and how do I get rid of them?  Even if they aren't hurting my plant they still look like crap.  I'll send you an e-mail with a couple of pictures.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Brady,

Thanks for the photos. The centipedes will not harm the plant, but I am sure you don't want them in your apartment. I recommend that you submerge the pot up to its rim in a tub of water and leave it for about 20 minutes. This will cause the critters to float to the top in search of air. Then you can remove them and let the soil drip-dry before moving it back.

The bugs came with the soil which was not properly sterilized. That's the sign of a cheap grower.

Try to move the plant a bit closer to the window, if possible. Be sure to let the top third of the soil dry out in between waterings.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
