soaker hoses and new sod?

Question
I am about to have my sod lain in my new home. I'm not sure which type of sprinkler/watering system to use as I have to set it on a timer system for the first month... please help.

Answer
Hi Yanni;
Do you already have a water sprinkling system installed?
If not, I would not have one. I use soaker hoses.
You can get timers that fit on your outside fauctes. Some go by gallons used and some go bu minutes.
I have my soaker hoses attached, go out and turn the water on and set the times for how long I know it will take rfor the water to start to run off, and it turns off by itself. I let it set for an houir or if I have to be away, several hours later, I turn it on again. I keep doing this until the ground is soaked to 6 inches deep.
New sod would need to be watered more than once a week. You need to keep it moist until the roots take hold and it starts growing. You can lay out the soaker hoses, because until it grows several inches, you are not going to mow, so you won't have to move the soaker hoses.
turn them on the water what you need on it early in the morning, and let it turn off by itself. do it again when you get home from work in the evening.
this will keep it moist enough.
