New Sod & Plants

Question
We just recently sided and roofed the house. It took longer then expected to be complete. We would like to put new sod and landscaping in within the next three weeks. Do you reccomend this or should we wait til next spring and do it right. We live in NY just to let you know.

Answer
actually fall is a better time of the year to plant. do it now. it is cooler and plants are heading towards dormancy for the winter. also plants are normally on sale because garden centers are trying to reduce the # of plants they have to store for winter. most retail places are selling plants for 50% off.
as long as the grade on your lawn area is OK all you have to do is cut your lawn real low and then lay sod on top of the old grass(no need to till or aerate). wet the area every morning for 2-3 weeks or until it starts to root. when you can't pull up on the sod it has rooted. then water 1-2 times(before noon) per week until cool weather arrives. start a fertilizer weed control program in the spring. visit your local garden center/nursery to see what they recommend for your area.
good luck
