new sod

Question
I bought some new palmeto St.augustine sod fron home depot to repair some bad areas in my yard. the sod was yellow with a little staw looking areas with very little green they said it would be fine just lay it and water it and it will green up. it looks like if you set something in your yard a few days and then move it the grass is yellow where it was. my question is- is what they said true will it turn green and survive and if so how long does it take. should i fertilize it to help or not.I live in centrel florida and its hot during the day and we get alot of late afternoon or early evening rains.

Answer
What you describe is usual and the advice you got is pretty standard. If you bought it from a reputable establishment there is not need for concern. Expect improvement within a week. Water faithfully, unless you get rain; do not be in a hurry to fertilize.
Problems can occur when the sod is stored in pallet quantities for a long time.
