What do you suggest about laying new sod and having pets?  We have 3 dogs and are planning to lay sod in Kyle Tx around March or April.  Do we need to keep are pets off of the sod for a specific length of time or can they be on the sod at any point?

Well, if they are large, and grass trompers, you would need to keep them off it until it gets a good hold.
Small dogs don't tend to stomp down grass as much as some larger dogs, some do though, like cocker Spaniels, if they run a lot.
If you could give the sod a full year's head start to get established, and water deeply to get a good, deep root system, it would give the grass a better chance..
