moth

Question
QUESTION: since over a year my palms are all cover with white ;ittle spots. I tried all kind of things from the stores, I even cut of all leafes but it is coming back, what can I do
thank you

ANSWER: Sigrid:

This is a bit out of my area, since palms do not grow naturally in my zome.

Several diseases effect palms and cycads:  nutrient deficiencies, fungal leaf spots, root rots, scale, spider mites, and mealy bugs.

First, I would make sure that the trees are receiving sufficient fertilizer balanced for that genus and species. Second, I would take a leaf sample to your local ag agent for identification of the problem.  Then, once it is identified, you can treat the culprit.

Ask the ag agent or local nursery selling palms for the best fertilizer and nutrient program.

Hope this is helpful.  Best wishes.

QUESTION: Thank you for your advise, another question I have is,
how I get rid of moth in my yard, there are thousands
thank you

Answer
Sigrid:

The moths infesting your yard can be one of several species.  I do not know which one you have.

Sod webworks, grubs, army worms all have an adult moth stage.  Leaf hoppers may be confused with moths.  They all can damage lawn and plants.

I would call your local ag agent to identify the moths.

Carbaryl (Sevin) will work on all those above, in covnentional chemical.  Nematodes and bacillus thuringensis will work on all but leaf hoppers.

Be sure to treat them now, while they are actively laying eggs.  When they stop, the eggs are set and grubs will come next year to damage plants.

Best wishes.
