just purchased a home and the sprinkler pump doesnt make any noice when i turn the time to on or auto

It appears that there is something basic that is not right about the timer. It could be as simple as the power not being 'ON' or a blown fuse. What make and model is it? Does it have a fuse? Is power available at the outlet? Another possibility is that the pump is protected against running unless it has "prime". Is there a port for priming the pump? Please see if you can find out answers to these questions and come back. No noise is sometimes better than some kinds of noises.
