pump is not pulling water

Question
I have a 1.5 HP pump that pulls water from a pond about 20 feet away.  It has worked fine in the past.  THis year, I flipped the switch and---no water.  I primed it, which I have not had to do with the past, and even got into the pond (which was REAL FUN) to make sure the end of the pump was not buried in silt. There are no obvious leaks from pipes near the pump.  Any suggestions???
Thanks

Answer
If the pump is turning on then you have to take the pump apart and check that the impeller and diffuser have no obstructions. Make sure that when the pump is put back together that the seal is replaced. You might want to take it to a shop. Try an irrigation company they might be cheaper. Before that make sure that the suction line and discharge lines are completely sealed with no leaks in the fittings. I've seen very small leaks cause the pump to lose suction.
