Pump start relay failure

Question
Hello, I have a older KRain pump start relay attached to my irrigation system (Zone timer and Well Pump).  When I go to switch my system on from the zone timer, regardless of which zone I select, the pump relay will click on but then seconds later click off.  In the past, this was a sporadic problem that usually went away after a few tries at the time box.  But now, I can't get the system to turn on at all.

I've run the system several times this season without problem.  This issue with the relay has just resurfaced out of the blue.

Do you have suggestions of what might cause this?

Shawn

Answer
Hi Shawn,

You will need to check the voltage while the controller is on to diagnose this problem. Using a volt meter, while the controller is turned on test the terminals at the controller COM and MV/P. You should get 23- 27 volts. Then disconnect the wire from MV/P and test again. If you get voltage in both tests, then I would suspect the relay or the wiring to the relay. If you get intermittent voltage during these tests it's possible the controller is having a problem. My suspicions are you have a loose connection at the relay.
Hope this helps, if you need further assistance, please reply back.

Matt
