twisted tomato leaves

Question
Hi, my parents planted healthy tomato plants, but after few weeks they started to look weird.  The leaves started to twist and curl and have purplish color.  We spotted some flea beetles on the plants, could they be the problem?

Answer
Svetlana:

You don't say where you live - temperatures could be a part of this. It is not flea beetles, they usually don't bother tomatoes but the sign that the beetle is doing damage would be many small holes in the leaves.

It is not unusual for tomato leaves to curl under, is that what they are doing? The plant usually continues to do fine. The purple color may signify a phosphorus deficiency - you can do a soil test for this. It the soil is cool however, the problem may also go away when it warms up.
