Growing Catnip

Question
I plan on growing 3-5 catnip plants in my house in our sun room...I just can't find anything relating to this:

After I spread the seeds and they start to sprout, should I leave all the sprouting seeds to grow, or thin them out so there is just one left?

And which size pot would be the best? I was thinking maybe 4" - 6" would be decent.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Andrew, spread the seeds in any container that you can cover with a freezer bag or plastic food bag of some type; this will keep the moisture from escaping and the seeds will germinate quicker, what type of container is really academic, as long as it remains covered out of the sun, and a warm darker area. Monitor the soil daily to make sure it stays damp, but not wet!, you don't want the seed to rot, just to germinate. Once the seeds sprout, you do indeed want to thin them out, so that there is a plant every 3 inches or so, once they sprout, then you will need to move them to a sunny location. As they grow, you will be able to (using a teaspoon) separate them and put them in their own container. One warning, Cats will find them (believe me!), I have bought individual plants at Home Depot and before they could develop into a large specimen, my Cats decimated them LOL!...so make sure they are safe until they get to be a foot or so tall, then they can take the onslaught, and continue to grow.
