Boonie Pepper growing

Question
I just came back to the US from the island of Guam. I used to grow "boonie"
peppers, a local pepper to the island, there. They are similar to the small hot
pepper in the US. I started the plants and now have them inside due to the
weather. I have 2 150W fluorescent bulbs on them(2) for about 16hrs a day
and they have peaked in size, about 4.5ft, but there are no blooms or
peppers. Any advice on how to get them to produce the pepper inside?
Thank you in advance,
Keri

Answer
Hi Keri, Albeit I am not familiar with that particular pepper, I can tell you that peppers are self pollinating, so when they do set a flush of blossoms they will develop peppers; the reason they are not flowering now is that the indoor conditions are marginal for development. You didn't mention how much you are fertilizing them, it seems that with the development you mentioned, they are getting too much nitrogen which encourages greenery and not product; keep them snipped back to control their size and just be concerned now with getting them through the winter, next spring you can move the plant outside and mother nature will take its course, giving you pepper development.
