I recently went to work for a local florest who orders silk funeral wreaths - crosses etc... from another company. How common is this?

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question.  Do you mean the company is ordering finished wreaths and crosses made with artificial flowers?  Or are you referring to the satin pillows to which flowers are added by the florist?

I mean that the florist is ordering finished wreaths and crosses in silk for funerals.

Personally, I've never seen this done in the business.  The main reason most of us end up in this line of work is for the personal satisfaction we gain when we create something beautiful.  So from my experience, I'd have to say it's not terribly common.
