Question
Hi. I dont have a photo because my husband turned the soil over after seeing it, but my question is this. On the top of our soil (of our vegetable garden) there was a turquois colored either powder or moss like substance. Where the carrots are is an organgle color powdery or moss type substance. We are very perplexed. The previous ownere used pesticides but we dont and we have been here over ten years. Do you have any idea what that was?

Answer
Hi Kelly, I suspect they were fungi. Probably slime molds.  They're harmless and your husband did the right thing by turning them under. They grow on decomposing organic matter and are quite common, especially on new mulch, but they can show up anywhere.  Jim
