Propagation Problem with Cuttings

Question
Last fall I took several hardwood cuttings of a Rose of Sharon tree.  I used a Bio-dome. All the cuttings rooted.  Each bud on the cuttings developed into a rough mass with new leaves but no new stem growth.  Any idea what went wrong?

Answer
Hi Robert,
Thanx for your question.  If I understand you correctly you took hardwood cuttings.  These cuttings produced new green growth correct?  It's going to take a while to get new stem growth but it will happen this summer.  Give it some more time.  Are the cuttings outdoors now?  They should be well-rooted and in separate containers.  Place outdoors in the shade, protected from wind and rain and direct sunlight for about 10 days.  After that, expose the cuttings to full sun and keep them well watered.  Feed with 1/2 strength 12-12-12 fertilizer every 14 days.  Stop feeding at the onset of Fall.  I hope this helps.
Tom
