Apple Seedlings in Wisconsin

Question
Hello.  My uncle has successfully grown apple seedlings and now that it is getting colder, he wants to know how to care for them during the cold winter months.  I have read that he should take the seedlings in the first year and was wondering if that was true and if so, how much he should water them and where in the house he should store them so they get enough sunlight.

Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi Marisa,
Store your apple seedlings in a cool, dark (non-freezing) garage or shed.  It should be cold but not freezing because you want the tree to go dormant for the winter.  Water the plant sparingly and do not feed it until after the last frost.  I hope this helps.
Tom
