apple tree

Question
I have a very old apple tree in my back yard - possibly more than 100 years
old.  There was an orchard here before my home was built in 1907.  This year
for the first time there are no apples and the tree leaves look shriveled with
brown edges.  I have lived here for 17 years and it has always produced 100's
of apples.  What could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Kristi,
Thanx for your question.  There could be a number of reasons for your apple tree's problem including its age.  Sounds to me like you may have a heritage or heirloom variety.  There could be a parasite attacking your tree.  My best advice would be to take samples of the leaves to your local county extension agent.  They should be able to help you identify the problem.  If you will give me your location, I can provide you with contact information.  I hope this helps.
Tom
