peachtrees from seeds

Question
Hello Tom
Thank you for your responses.  I just would like to know do the peach seeds have to be from ripe peaches.
We have several premature peaches that have fallen due to the windstorms here in KS.  Instead of feeding them to the hogs I would like to know if those can be replanted.
Thank You
(K-state is Great!)

Answer
Hi John,
Thanx for your question.  K-State is great but Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KU!  My niece went to K-State and before I enlisted in the Air Force many moons ago, I attended KU.  I too, am a Kansan.

I think the seed has not had a chance to fully mature to be viable in the immature peaches that have been blown off the tree.  I can't imagine that the fruit are very large at this stage so the seed is most likely too immature to germinate.  It's just like taking green seed (unripe) from grain or flowers.  The seed usually ends up rotting because it doesn't have a protective coat around it.  I hope this helps.
Tom
