GROWING DAY-LILLIES FROM SEED

Question
HELLO, I HAVE NUMEROUS DAY-LILLY PLANTS ALL AROUND Y PROPERTY AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE LITLE BLACK SEEDS THAT I FIND IN THE HARD LIKE "THING" THAT IS NOW GROWING ON THE EXISTING PLANTS IS WHAT I PLANT FOR MORE DAY-LILLYS!?  PLEASE ADVISE THE PROPER RE-SEEDING...THANKS! BR

Answer
Hey Bill Ray,
Thanx for your question.  The little black seeds in the seed pod you speak of can be planted to result in new plants.  You can sow these seeds in your garden plot in the fall and they should germinate in the spring after the last frost or, you can collect the seed and save them until February of next year.  Put the seeds in a damp paper towel and put the paper towel inside a plastic baggie sealed for 2 weeks in the fridge.  Then you can plant the seeds in a pot or tray and start them indoors at 75 degrees.  They should be ready to go outdoors around the middle of April or the 1rst of May depending upon your location but you will have to put the seedlings in a shaded place outdoors (after last frost) for about 10 days before planting out directly in the garden.  I hope this helps.
Tom
