wisteria bean pods

Question
Hey Tom,
I was wondering what is the purpose of the bean pods on my wisteria bush? This is the 1st year it has bloomed as well as produced these pods. Can you plant the seeds for reproduction? Thanks, Mike.

Answer
Hi Mike,
Thanx for your question.  The beans are the result of pollination and your plant is trying to reproduce itself.  The seeds germinate easily but if your plant is a hybrid it is very doubtful the progeny will resemble the parent plant.  In fact, plants grown from seeds of hybrids tend to be inferior and lackluster but it's always fun to try because there is that 1 in a million chance that you'll get something superior.  I hope this helps.
Tom
